This is the grandson of Juoquin
Velazquez who started a "popular" music band in the village in 1993. He resides
in the house of his grandfather with his parents and other siblings. Click image to enlarge |

This photo taken in 1973 shows the
"dance of the pastorelas" performed during one the the village fiestas. The man
leading the dance group (middle, foreground) died in the mid-1980s and had trained no one
to carry on the tradition. This is one of several religious traditions I observed in the
early 1970s which are no longer practiced. Click image to enlarge |

This photo taken in 1977 shows an elderly indigenous woman
selling brushes she has m ade from strong grasses found in the mountains above her
village. As mentioned in chapter 9, it is not uncommon for post-menapausal women from such
villages to take up marketing activities in urban areas to supplement family income. Click image to enlarge |
