This is the grandson of Juoquin Velazquez who started a "popular" music band in the village in 1993. He resides in the house of his grandfather with his parents and other siblings.

This photo taken in 1973 shows the "dance of the pastorelas" performed during one the the village fiestas. The man leading the dance group (middle, foreground) died in the mid-1980s and had trained no one to carry on the tradition. This is one of several religious traditions I observed in the early 1970s which are no longer practiced.

This photo taken in 1977 shows an elderly indigenous woman selling brushes she has m ade from strong grasses found in the mountains above her village. As mentioned in chapter 9, it is not uncommon for post-menapausal women from such villages to take up marketing activities in urban areas to supplement family income.
