The student leadership programs offered at USFSP are designed to develop and enhance leadership skills in the student body in order to give our students a competitive edge once they enter the workforce, apply for scholarships, enter Graduate programs or actively participate in their local communities. These outcomes of these programs are to instill the value of service and to maximize leadership potential.
LeaderSpeak Lecture Series: The LeaderSpeak Series is designed to introduce students to the variety and complexity of leadership needs in today’s society. Presenters from a wide variety of expertise and experience will be invited to articulate a critical need in a particular area and providing reflections on the role of leadership in meeting that need.
Corporate Leadership Retreat: The Corporate Leadership Retreat is a unique program that provides an opportunity for USF St. Petersburg students to see firsthand how leadership development fits into the corporate setting. It also creates an opportunity for students to learn how the skills they are developing now will prepare them to be more valuable employees and citizens of their community. Each semester, a different Tampa Bay area business hosts the retreat, and participants gain the following from the leaders of those corporations: an introduction to the leadership philosophy of a major corporation, workshops relating to leaders and/or leadership in that field, on-site demonstrations and training of work in that field and networking opportunities with other students with similar career goals and leaders in the field.
Lead Week: Lead Week is a week-long celebration of Leadership at USFSP. Each day of Lead Week, a different leadership related program will take place.
Leadership & Engagement Awards: Held during the spring each year, the Leadership Awards Banquet is a formal dinner and ceremony in which the Bishop Center recognizes exceptional students, advisers, organizations and friends for an outstanding achievement in leadership. Awards are given for superior officers, advisers, members, organizations and projects.
Fall Leadership Retreat: Students who wish to gain valuable knowledge and leadership experience in a more condensed manner can participate in the annual Fall Leadership Retreat, a three day/two night conference, which helps students develop leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
At the conference students will bond with peers and learn from USF St. Petersburg faculty, staff and alumni on a variety of leadership topics. Approximately 50 student leaders spend time together learning leadership skills and networking with their peers and administrators. The retreat is designed to facilitate a variety of leadership challenges on personal, small group and large group levels. First year students are encouraged to participate, as are sophomores and juniors serving in leadership positions on campus. Faculty, staff, a few alumni and students who have attended the retreat in the past serve as facilitators.
Freshmen Leaders Institute: The Freshmen Leaders Institute is a day long leadership institute for freshmen students only. This event focuses on empowering freshmen students to take on leadership roles at USFSP and in their communities. This institute focuses on increasing students awareness about leadership, helping students find available leadership roles/positions, connecting students with other student and community leaders, and teaching students how to effectively lead others. There are a limited number of seats for this event, so apply early!
Co-curricular Transcripts: The co-curricular transcript provides students with official documentation of involvement in co-curricular activities and services during his or her college career. This documentation is important to students when they apply to graduate school or a professional job.
