Semi-Annual Laboratory Safety Reviews
Research and teaching laboratories at USFSP are reviewed on a set semi-annual schedule to assist in maintaining compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
More about USF lab reviews
Chemical Inventory at USFSP is maintained through an online system referred to as HITS (Hazardous Inventory Tracking System). This system provides the laboratory personnel to identify and manage their chemicals from delivery to disposal stages. HITS also serves as a resource to emergency response personnel. In order to obtain access to HITS, submit a HITS request form.
Fume hoods are an essential tool when working with materials that are aromatic or volatile, vapors, gases, or fine particles that are easily lifted by air flow. There are numerous types of fume hoods. USFSP Fume hoods are scheduled to be tested annually to ensure that the proper air flow range is met. The value of air flow identified each year can be found on the yellow card attached to the fume hood. For requests or questions concerning fume hood flow please click here: include online survey request for fume hood flow.

Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP)
The Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) applies to all laboratories at USFSP and all members in the lab; each lab member is required adhere to the CHP while functioning in any USF laboratory. The CHP is required to be easily accessible in all laboratories. Many of the guidelines monitored during the semi-annual lab reviews are listed in the Chemical Hygiene Plan . It is the responsibility of the Principle Investigator to read, disseminate and impose the Plan to their staff.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) SOPs are highly effective and essential in ensuring that safety and quality of research procedures are maintained in a lab regardless of the operator performing the procedure. SOPs are required for all laboratory work and must be pre-approved by EHS.
