Faculty Research Council

The USF St. Petersburg (USFSP) Research Council is a standing committee in the Faculty Senate. The Research Council advises the Regional Vice Chancellor (RVC) for Academic Affairs who functions as the Chief Research Officer on policies, procedures, and matters of interest relating to research and creative activity at USF St. Petersburg.

Duties and responsibilities include and are not limited to:

    • Evaluating applications for Internal Research Grant Program
    • Promoting faculty training, workshops, and education on topics of scholarship
    • Promoting an efficient process for approval of human subject research
    • Encouraging ethical and responsible scholarship and reporting of research
    • Encouraging ethical and responsible treatment of animals in research
    • Recommending policies for accounting of funded scholarship
    • Recommending policies for faculty assignments to encourage scholarship
    • Advising the Faculty Senate on matters of creative scholarship and research
    • Supporting the academic freedom of faculty to pursue scholarship
    • Serves as the review panel for the Chancellor's Outstanding Faculty Award for Research

The College are represented on the Council by two tenure-track faculty members. One representative is appointed from the Poynter Library; and the RVC for Academic Affairs serves as an ex-officio member.

Members of the Research Council serve two-year terms on a rotating basis. Monthly meetings are scheduled for the last Friday of the month, September through April of the academic year. Proceedings of Research Council Meetings are posted on the Faculty Senate's web site.
