Hitting the Target: Training & Research Development 2010- 2011

Designed specifically for USFSP faculty, staff, and students.The goal is to increase the number of research awards. Providing the proper tools, preparation, and training guarantees success. Sessions include:

  • The New eIRB Process
  • Responsible conduct of Research (RCR) course: new NSF Requirement
  • The NIH Application Process - New Short Form
  • Preparing Students for Research
    • Opportunities for students to present research are presented throughout the academic year.
      • Graduate Research EXPO
      • Undergraduate Research Symposium
      • Lead, Learn, and Serve Program
      • Writer's Showcase
      • COE Gallery Walk
      • Research Presentation as a class requirement
      • Student Research Journal - 1st Edition - FALL 2010

      Help sessions are available to assist students in preparing and presenting research.

    • Creating a Research Poster - Student scholars will learn tips for creating a Power Point poster presentation, use of their College USFSP logo, sizing guidelines; and, printing requirements. 2 training sessions - Registration required. Call:873.4096 or email: pscott@mail.usf.edu.
    • Presenting a Paper - Scholars learn tips for writing abstracts; the format for paper presentation; the evaluation criteria ; and submission deadline . Registration is required. Call: 873.4096 or email: pscott@mail.usf.edu.

       

TRAIN Workshops: System-wide training available to USF St. Petersburg upon request. Sessions are on-going through the academic year. To request, call 873.4096 or email:pscott@mail.usf.edu.

 

  • Intro to the TRAIN Depot - This workshop introduces faculty and staff with quick reference guides for each phase of the research administration life cycle. Links are provided to detailed business process documents.
  • Preparing Project Budgets - this workshop provides faculty and staff with an overview of proposal budgeting using the 3-Minute Budget Preparation Tool. The workshop covers: Project Budget Overview, Proposal Budget Components and Information, and Budget Justification.
  • Award Set-up - This workshop provides faculty and staff with an overview of the Award Set-up phase of the research administration life cycle, highlighting the process steps and forms, including the Grant Budget Release and sub account documentation.

Registration is through GEMS Self Service. Access Self Service through the eUSF Portal or by signing in directly to GEMS with your GEMS ID Number (11 digits in Length) and your password. For help with this ID or password, please contact the IT Helpdesk at help@usf.edu. Once signed in, Go to the Talent Management, click on request for training.
