I'm a journalist and editor by day, and spend my nights and weekends practicing Bikram yoga, editing the news section of The Crow's Nest and growing vegetables in my backyard. I'm a Buffalo, New York, native, and I've lived in New York City, India and France. I hold a bachelor of arts degree in writing (journalism) from The New School in New York City. I'm currently finishing up my master's thesis, and will graduate from USFSP in December 2012. I have mixed feelings about leaving.

I just graduated (May 2012) with an MLA from the Florida Studies Program. Perhaps I'm biased, but I think it's the most interesting graduate program in the state. My thesis is titled "The Good, the Bad, and the Garbage: The Making of Modern Florida Solid Waste Policy." Before I commit to a job or further study, I am taking a gap year to explore places around the world that have long captivated my imagination.

I am proud to be a graduate of USF St. Pete. This past fall I graduated with a bachelors degree in Environmental Science and Policy with a minor in Political Science. I am originally from Orlando and have been a resident of St. Petersburg for 3 years. This city is incredible and I have loved every moment of my time here. While at USFSP I had the opportunity to serve as an Ambassador, the President of the Student Environmental Awareness Society, and an Orientation leader. I love life and aim to experience everything it has to offer.

Zachary Westmark is a USFSP graduate who loves puns. His last name affords a convenient connotation: his blog captures his attempt to migrate to the West coast of the USA while exploring culture, frugality, geography, physical exertion and sustainability - via long distance bicycle trek (peppered with other random tidbits).
