First time in College pre-orientation checklist

Congratulations on your acceptance to USF St. Petersburg! Beginning college life is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming.   We want to ensure that you have everything you need to be successful as a student at USF St. Petersburg.  Please review the list below and take the following steps before attending the mandatory orientation session.

Activate Your NetID Account

  • You will need to active your USF NetID in order to check you admission status, pay your admissions deposit and register for orientation.

Admissions

  • Pay your Admissions Deposit by the deadline.
  • Use Admissions Online Status Check frequently to verify your residency status, major, health immunization and more.
  • Complete the required steps to declare Florida Residency, if applicable.
  • Submit your final transcripts or additional test scores as needed.
  • Update your major or term of entry as needed via the Application Update Form.
  • Update your e-mail, other records and contact information as needed via OASIS.

Orientation

  • Select, register, and pay for your orientation session as soon as possible.  Orientation registration is done on-line, by a first come, first served basis.

Housing

Financial Aid

  • Apply for financial aid as early as possible each year. You can apply as early as January 1 using estimated income and tax return information.
  • If eligible, apply for Bright Futures (while in high school) and notify Bright Futures which university you are attending.

Immunization/Health History Information Compliance

  • As an incoming student you are required to complete the USF Immunization Health History Form and return it USF St. Petersburg’s Records & Registration office before you will have access to course registration. You will not be able to register for courses at orientation until this is done.
  • Bring a back-up copy of this paperwork with you to orientation.

Before Academic Advising at Orientation

  • Bring any information you have about possible college credit including: AP, IB, AICE, CLEP (scores or a list of tests taken); Dual enrollment (college transcripts or list of courses); Transfer credit (transcripts or a list of courses).

What to Bring to Orientation

  • Toiletries
  • Linens to fit an extra long twin bed (fitted bed sheet, blanket or sleeping bag and towel)
  • A pillow
  • An alarm clock
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes (you will be walking all over campus)
  • A sweater or sweatshirt (temperatures vary in the buildings)
  • An umbrella
  • A bathing suit.  There will be a pool party in the evening
  • Your University ID Number (U#)
  • Extra spending money for snacks, beverages, and shopping in the bookstore
  • Your Orientation Parking Permit which will be emailed to you when you complete your registration.
  • Copy of CLEP, IB, AP Scores (if applicable and not already submitted)
  • Immunization Records (if not already submitted)  You will not be able to register for courses until your immunization records are received by Student Health Services or USF St. Petersburg's Registrar's Office.

Local Hotels

  • Overnight housing is not provided for parents or guests of students.  You should make arrangements to stay in a local hotel.  You might also need to come in a day early as the orientation program begins early on the first day.
