Organization and Job Description

The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) is headquartered in Clearwater, Florida with a mission to promote healthy, active lifestyles for seniors through quality competition. NSGA is a non-profit Multi-Sports Council Member of the US Olympic Committee and governs the biennial National Senior Games, the largest multi-sport championship event in the world for athletes 50 and over. The Communications and Media Assistant is a contracted part-time position from date of hire through the National Senior Games in June, 2019. Social/Digital strength highly desired. Hours in office begin at 16-20/week building to max part time hours from late March through mid-June. Pay is $15/Hr. With demonstrated performance the Assistant will be offered a supplemental contract to join staff in Albuquerque to be office manager and assistant to the Director in the Media Operations Center during event. Some post-event hours to assist with tasks and reports at office would be included. This is a one-of-a-kind, real world job experience and a powerful resume builder!

Scope of Work – Pre-Games 

  • Updating/confirming information on athlete story lead lists, media contact lists, media placement records, etc. Research and assemble Athletes to Watch and Teams to Watch media briefing documents
  • Produce athlete infographic and other collateral for 2019 Media Guide and other needs
  • Helping to organize and/or create content for owned social media channels and promoting/tracking an anticipated hashtag campaign at The Games
  • Proofreading and light production support for monthly newsletter, releases, athlete features and NSGA collateral materials
  • Opportunity to write content
  • Assist HQ staff with tasks if needed

Scope of Work – Games Operations, Albuquerque 

  • Social Media
    • Manage process of collecting, scheduling and posting content to NSGA owned social media platforms during The Games
    • Monitor and respond appropriately to messages and comments, enforce NSGA standards
    • Assist with curating and sharing hashtag campaign content
  • Media Operations Center
    • Greet visitors, monitor email and phone messages; log and refer media inquiries/photo requests
    • Media credentialing and media kit dissemination
    • Implement media center functions and tasking plans
    • Update Games in the News web listing of daily media coverage
    • Assemble and produce Village Daily one-sheet print handout to distribute each day at The Games; other desktop publishing tasks may be called for
    • Monitor editorial meetings to be aware of daily activities/assignments for online Games Daily News platform
    • Assist with light proofreading and writing assignments as necessary
    • Monitor office supplies/information collateral inventory
    • Other related tasking as needed
    • Assist with wrap-up activities- filing paper records, print Daily samples, media coverage report spreadsheet, clean up online folders, archival of stories, and complete an after-action report

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a University or College
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Desktop publishing capability (e.g. InDesign)
  • Understanding of social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) with ability to contribute to strategic planning; familiarity with Hootsuite social media software a plus
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including telephone etiquette skills
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to respect confidential information
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
