Watermark Seeks Interns for Web Publication
Watermark prides itself in quality editorial content that serves as a news source for Tampa Bay and Central Florida LGBTQ and ally readers, in print and online. An internship with Watermark provides students with hands-on journalism learning experience, allowing them to be a part of constructing the content of a newspaper every step of the way.
During an internship, students will be expected to learn or improve upon their skills as they assist in the creation of bi-weekly print and daily web content, utilize press releases on tight deadlines for breaking news, write and pitch story ideas relevant to Tampa Bay, Central Florida, statewide and national LGBTQ markets for print and online publication and assist the director of online media with any other tasks (i.e. photo gallery postings, copy editing stories or researching a topic for a pitched story).
Students may also cover events throughout Tampa Bay that Watermark attends or hosts.
Each student’s on-site supervisor will be Ryan Williams-Jent, Tampa Bay Bureau Chief. 813-655-9890, ext. 302, Ryan@WatermarkOnline.com.
Students are given the opportunity to create their own internship schedule with a minimum of 120 hours throughout the semester during Watermark’s Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. work week. Most interns work 9 hours a week at a minimum to fulfill the 120 hours with an average of two 8-hour shifts a week.
USF’s “Internship Supervisor’s Evaluation” form will be completed for each participant and returned to the appropriate party the day after classes end.
