November is International Education Month at USFSP
(Nov. 14, 2017) – USFSP is celebrating its third annual International Education Month this November. International Education Month is an an opportunity to promote programs that prepare students for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences. Campus events, lectures and education abroad seminars throughout the month will highlight the benefits of international education and exchange to students
“We often hear from students that participating in an education abroad program is the most memorable aspect of their academic careers,” said Wendy Baker, USFSP director of global initiatives and education abroad programs. “International Education Month provides them the opportunity to highlight these experiences.”
Creating affordable international opportunities for students is a major focus of the university. Roughly 10-12 education abroad programs each year allow students the opportunity to learn about leadership ethics in Greece or mining and sustainable development in India or language and culture in Spain. About 85 USFSP students participate in these international education opportunities each year and another 15 either attend international conferences to further their studies or participate in an overseas internship.
In addition to encouraging international education experiences, the university is home to students from 25 different countries. The diversity of cultures represented in the student body bring new perspectives and ideas to the university community as a whole.
“We are a small but mighty university. A lot of faculty, staff and students are doing interesting things with internationalization efforts here or are involved in overseas education. We hope this month of activities raises the awareness of those efforts,” said Joseph Kenny, academic program specialist for global initiatives at USFSP.
International Education Month at USFSP grew out of International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. A full list of campus events around international education can be found here: www.usfsp.edu/internationaled
