USF St. Petersburg to Welcome First of Class of 2021

Patti Helton welcomes new students The University of South Florida St. Petersburg will welcome students from the Class of 2021 during Move-in Weekend June 24-25. On Saturday, the first 140 students of the new freshmen class will move into Residence Hall One. On Sunday, USFSP will host a Summer Convocation Ceremony for these students and their families at the University Student Center.

Convocation is the official university welcome for new students – a kickoff to their academic journey. During the ceremony, students receive a USFSP commencement tassel symbolizing their commitment to graduate in four years. Summer Convocation was instituted in 2015 as a part of the Compass First-Year Experience program, which aims to anchor all new freshmen through faculty-led Learning Journeys, peer mentoring, study strategy workshops and social activities.

Martin Tadlock welcomes students “Convocation is one of our first opportunities to formally congratulate students on the choice they made in selecting USFSP,” said Regional Chancellor Sophia Wisniewska. “It’s a chance to remind new students to dream big and to leverage the unique opportunities they will have to work closely with their faculty by engaging in research or other experiential learning. It’s the start of an exciting few years for these students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.”

The remainder of the Class of 2021 will join their peers for Fall Move-In Weekend in August. Fall Convocation will be held on Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at the University Student Center.
