USF St. Petersburg Coed Sailing Team recently hosted and won the Frank I. Mendelblatt Regatta. The format for the race this year was 3 vs. 3 team racing, which consists of teams of three two-person boats competing in a win-lose race. Five other teams participated in the competition, including Cornell University, Salve Regina University, and the University of Miami.

“All of the credit goes to the USFSP Bulls sailing team members for running a fantastically successful event,” said USFSP Coed Sailing Coach Alan Capellin. “It was a total team effort. They were awesome!”

“I am very proud that they were able to sail well and run the regatta as professionally as they did,” said Capellin. “They represented the USF System an USFSP very well.”

In February, the USFSP Coed Sailing Team won the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta in Charleston, S.C. They competed against eight universities from across the U.S., including the Californian Maritime Academy, Vanderbilt University, the U.S. Naval Academy, Auburn University, and the College of Charleston.
