The Military & Veterans Success Center at USFSP will celebrate its first anniversary on Thursday, Nov. 10. On its anniversary date, USFSP will host a combined anniversary celebration and Veterans Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will be open to the public and will include a visit from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Mobile Vet Center. The event is sponsored by USFSP Student Affairs, Student Government, and the Student Veterans Organization.

“Since we opened our doors, we’ve had more than 3,170 visits to the center. That’s averaging more than 260 a month,” said Milton White, director of the Military and Veterans Success Center at USFSP, which serves nearly 275 student veterans, their dependents, and USFSP faculty and staff who are veterans. “The need for the center here was an obvious priority, and to now be able to provide and fulfill that need enables us to truly be able to reach out to help our student veterans.”

In May, the USF Sarasota-Manatee followed suit and opened the doors to its own Military and Veterans Success Center.

The University of South Florida System is well recognized for its commitment, care and attention to serving student veterans. USF was ranked No. 1 in the “Best for Vets: Colleges 2017” list of 175 schools in the United States by Military Times EDGE, moving up from No. 2. The university consistently ranked among the Top 5 schools in the nation for six of the seven years the rankings have been published.

“By ensuring support system wide, we have been able to provide better support for our veterans,” said Dr. Larry Braue, director of the USF Office of Veteran Success and a U.S. Army retired Lieutenant Colonel. “The fact that we have centers on USFSP and USFSM is a huge advantage for USF.  Very few universities have separate space for veterans on all campuses within their system.  We do. That speaks volumes for USF’s total commitment to veteran success.”

Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report ranked USFSP No. 1 for having the Best Online MBA for Veterans. The publication also ranked USFSP No. 15 in the nation, No. 2 in Florida for its Online MBA Program.
