One USF St. Petersburg professor is speaking as part of the Humanities Texas summer institutes for high school teachers on Teaching the American Literary Tradition.
This week, Dr. Julie Buckner Armstrong, professor of English and Literature Program Coordinator, will be giving lectures and workshops on literature from the civil rights era in El Paso. Last week, the workshops were held in Austin.
According to the Humanities Texas website, the nonprofit partnered with the University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts, the Harry Ransom Center, and the University of Texas at El Paso to host the teacher institutes that are focused on American literary tradition.
“The institutes recruit early-career teachers from low-performing schools, so this is a fantastic opportunity to work with those who need help the most,” said Armstrong, who teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in American literature at USFSP. “From working directly with these teachers, I’m also learning so much that I can bring back to my courses here at USFSP—many of which draw students going into education as a profession.”
