USFSP Names New Regional Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration

USF St. Petersburg (USFSP) Regional Chancellor Sophia Wisniewska has appointed Chitra Iyer, J.D., as Regional Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration (RAVCA). Iyer will provide the leadership for all human resources functions, and for administration of the Office of the Regional Chancellor, to include managing the flow of the USFSP Strategic Plan, which will be submitted for approval to the USF Board of Trustees in September. Iyer will serve on the institution’s senior leadership team.

“Our search resulted in qualified candidates from across the country,” said Helen Levine, Ph.D., Regional Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and chair of the RAVCA search committee. “In the end, Chitra’s multi-disciplinary background in HR operations, strategic communications, risk management and law will make her a particularly valuable member of our team.”

“The RAVCA is a key position for us, particularly as we move forward on our Strategic Plan,” said Dr. Wisniewska. “We are fortunate to have found in Chitra someone who has a proven track record in leading Human Resources at distinctive universities, and managing campus-wide initiatives aimed at promoting collaboration and innovation during periods of growth and change.”

Most recently, Iyer was Chief HR Officer for the College of Arts & Sciences at The Ohio State University in Columbus where, since 2009, she was consultant to 38 departments and 20 centers, and almost 5,000 faculty, staff and student employees. Prior to that, between 2003 and 2009, she was a Project Manager and a Labor Relations Manager and Strategist for the University. Iyer earned her J.D. degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from Albion College in Albion, Michigan. She joins USFSP in mid-August.

“As I walked through the USFSP campus, I saw a university with high aspirations, engaged in world-class research, and supporting a vibrant student and cultural life,” said Iyer. “I am excited to be part of a university that values its relationships with the community and building strong partnerships. I look forward to contributing to its continued success in a meaningful way.”
