Congratulations and welcome to USFSP!
As a newly admitted graduate student at USFSP you are joining a select group of incredibly bright and talented students. Our goal at the Office of Graduate Studies is to make sure you have the administrative help you need, when you need it, so you can focus on making the best of your time here at USFSP. To get you started, we’ve listed the most common items that new students need to take care of to successfully enroll and get their first semester started on the right foot.
You want to be sure that there are no holds on your student accounts that will prevent you from registering for classes. Check OASIS for any holds such as unpaid parking tickets, immunization holds, library fines and outstanding tuition charges and double check that all is well on your financial aid. Check the status of your financial aid using OASIS. If you have not been receiving communication regarding financial aid please contact 727-873-4128.
Next, check your residency status in OASIS to see if you qualify for in-state tuition. If the status is incorrect notify the Office of Graduate Studies immediately.
Now it is time to register. How to Register for Graduate Classes 2014. You must also be registered for at least 5 hours of graduate credit at the same time or you will lose your financial aid unless your program has made special arrangements.
There are critical deadlines during the first week of classes:
- You must notify your professor if you plan to miss the first scheduled class.
- If you intend to drop a class you must withdraw in OASIS (do not assume that you were automatically withdrawn due to lack of attendance).
- If you never attended a class you should fill out a course delete form to request a refund.
- You will not be penalized for changing your schedule until after 5 pm Friday of the first week.
- You may add a class any time before 5 pm Friday on the first week of class. Once that time passes, if you have not paid for a class, you will be assessed a late fee.
- Tuition is due by the end of the first week.
Critical points after the first week:
- If you need to drop a class after the first week, you can do so yourself using OASIS without academic penalty through the 9th week of classes. A “W” will appear on your academic transcript.
- After the 9th week, you should use a “Graduate Petition Form” that is approved by your professor and the college director or dean.
- Up to 12 credit hours taken as a non-degree seeking student at any USF institution as long as you have the approval of your advisor. Only grades of B or better will be considered for transfer credit.
- It is important to be aware of your academic progress and communicate often with your advisor if you are experiencing difficulty. No grade of C- or below will be accepted towards your degree program (and specific programs will not accept C’s).
- Should you fall below a 3.00, you will have up to three semesters to bring yourself back into good standing. However, at any time that it is determined that it is mathematically impossible for you to bring your GPA up in the 3 semesters, the program might consider dismissal.
- Master’s degree students have five years to complete their degree and must be enrolled for at least six hours of graduate credit in a 12 month period.
- If comprehensive exams are required in your program, be enrolled in 2 graduate hours during the semester of comps.
- If working on a thesis, be enrolled in 2 graduate hours of thesis credit during the semester of submission. And, be enrolled in 2 hours of graduate credit in the semester of graduation.
Your USF Net ID is your log-in to access all USFSP student electronic resources. Therefore, if you haven’t already activated your USF Net ID, it is important that you do so as soon as possible. Activate your USF Net ID.
Once you have your USF Net ID, you can log in to OASIS (Online Access Student Information System) to register for classes, pay your tuition, and check your financial aid status among other administrative functions. This is also where you can find out if there are any outstanding holds that will prevent you from registering for classes.
If you have not yet taken care of your Immunization Hold, you will need to do so before you can register for your first classes. If you are a returning USF System student, we suggest contacting the Office of Student Health Services at 813-974-4056 to ensure that your records are up to date. You can now get your immunizations completed at the new USFSP Wellness Center located on campus at http://www.usfsp.edu/wellness/
We suggest that all new graduate students meet with or communicate by phone or email with their degree program’s Faculty Advisor to discuss a degree course plan. Follow-up with your advisor each semester to make accurate course selections. Your Faculty Advisor’s contact information is included in your acceptance letter, but you can also access them through our Degree Programs web page.
