While unrestricted scholarship support provides the greatest impact, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg allows donors to establish specific selection criteria for student recipients. The University will select recipients according to the specified criteria for individual scholarships or will award unrestricted scholarship funds where the need is greatest. Typical selection criteria may include:
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
- Merit/academic achievement
- Undergraduate research
- International studies
- Leadership/instiutional involvement
ENROLLMENT STATUS
Donors may consider enrollment status as a requirement and choose either full-time or part-time students to be eligible applicants for a scholarship being established.
FINANCIAL NEED
If donors determine financial need to be a criteria considered when awarding a scholarship, the University will use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to measure financial need.
LEADERSHIP AND/OR COMMUNITY
Leadership positions and USF St. Petersburg or community service activities of an applicant can be considered when awarding a scholarship, if the donor so chooses.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
If desired, the donor can select a residency requirement such as Florida resident or U.S. Citizen.
GRADE LEVEL
The donor can indicate whether the recipient should be a graduate or undergraduate student.
COLLEGE AND/OR MAJOR
The donor can request that the recipient be within a specific College and/or pursuing a particular academic major.
University Development staff will work with individual donors to develop a governing agreement for each scholarship fund which describes the donor's intent in establishing the scholarship, any criteria, the process to be used to award scholarships, and other pertinent information. Agreements must be signed by the donor(s), the university, and the USF Foundation to indicate acceptance by all.
