The FSC for Students

A unique aspect of the Center is the opportunities it provides for USF St. Petersburg undergraduate students to participate meaningfully in both cutting edge research studies and in volunteerism serving Pinellas County toddlers and preschoolers.

Research: Since 2005, over thirty different USFSP undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students have contributed to regional, national, and international conference papers, most as first or second authors. In 2007, a report featuring the work of two Family Study Center students was nominated for the Outstanding Professional Paper Award at the Southeastern Psychological Association, and their research was published in the top-tier journal Family Process in December 2008. In March 2008, five Family Study Center students presented research reports at the International Conference on Infant Studies in Vancouver, Canada.

Service: Family Study Center students also help provide service to our community and state. Students have collaborated with Dr. McHale, who is co-Chair for the Pinellas County Early Childhood Mental Health Committee, in supporting the work of the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health’s 2005 and 2006 statewide conferences, and the Pinellas County Early Learning Coalition's quarterly comprehensive health and social-emotional screenings for area preschoolers.
