The Family Study Center at USF St. Petersburg, directed by Dr. James McHale, is the home of both basic and applied research studies concerned with understanding, supporting, and advocating for families with young children. Since its inception, the Family Study Center has been a base for innovative new projects and initiatives to support coparenting and children's development. Our research is designed to provide new directions to enable the healthy development of children and families in Pinellas and in neighboring Florida counties; to provide a national model for family-sensitive supports; and to advocate for better and fully inclusive practices, policies, and laws.

April 2012 marked the official launch of the Brady Education Foundation-sponsored project "Figuring It Out For the Child", an innovative new prenatal program that helps foster coparenting alliances in families of African American mothers and fathers expecting a first child together.
