About Campus Computing

The Office of Campus Computing is responsible for all functions involving computing, data communication, and telephony services at USF St. Petersburg. This responsibility includes the planning and implementation of the infrastructure needed to support academic programs at USFSP, and its evolution as a major research institution. Campus Computing Services (CCS) and the St. Petersburg Regional Data Center (SPRDAC) are integral divisions of Campus Computing.

Campus Computing Services

Campus Computing Services operates about 71 hours per week during fall and spring semesters. The computer lab in Bayboro Hall is the one-stop location for student computing support. Student support is provided by the academic support staff on duty.

Bayboro Hall houses a 5,000 square foot instructional computing facility for supporting the computing needs of USFSP students. CCS also maintains a computer lab in the Florida Center for Teaching building, as well as chemistry and biology labs in the Science and Technology Building.

Classroom technology resources are also available in classrooms across campus for students and professors. They include an Internet-ready computer, popular software titles, and a ceiling-mounted projector. Scantron test scoring scanners are available in several locations around campus. Please see the Classroom Technology page of our Web site for more information.

The St. Petersburg Regional Data Center (SPRDAC) is a university auxiliary that serves to generate financial reserves for hardware maintenance within Campus Computing. SPRDAC consists of three groups: systems, network support, and hardware repair. These groups maintain the servers which provide the following services:

  • Active Directory
  • Email routing
  • Domain name system
  • Web hosting
  • Network printing
  • Network file storage
  • Telephony and voicemail
  • Keyless entry
  • Video surveillance
  • Energy management
  • Cisco Clean Access
  • Share My PC
  • MyPC virtual computer lab
  • Symantec antivirus protection
  • PatchLink software update management
  • Virtual private network (VPN)
  • Reverse 911
  • PacketShaper 10000 Packeteer
  • IronPort email and Web security appliances
  • Wireless Internet access

SPRDAC is also responsible for the management, operation, and expansion of STPNet, the campus-wide network. STPNet provides access to vast amounts of information and media within networks at USF St. Petersburg and from networks around the world. Based on Ethernet technology, STPNet operates at speeds of over one billion bits of data per second, providing the information-sharing infrastructure needed to support USFSP in its achievement of institutional goals and its position as a major research institution.
