Chancellor's Letter
February 19, 2008
Dear USFSP Community:
In my email of January 23, I noted the size of the impending budget reductions for USF St. Petersburg and the limits on spending that we must follow in order to weather these events with minimal disruption to the delivery of education to our students.
Your Regional Vice Chancellors and I have been working to develop a plan of action for our campus. I have expanded the USFSP Budget Council to include representatives from constituency groups, including the Student Government Association, A&P Council, Staff Council, the Academic Deans, and an additional representative of the faculty. The expanded group met for the first time on Tuesday, February 13 and has been charged with generating budget reduction guidelines, revenue enhancement ideas, expanding the non-personnel budget restraint list, and delivering its deliberations and recommendations to me by March 17. The members of the Budget Council have been requested to keep their constituencies informed regarding Budget Council’s discussions.
I urge everyone to participate in this process – your thoughts and ideas are valuable as we evaluate every possible scenario to minimize the effects of the economic downturn in Florida. Please continue to give us your input through the website: ideas@stpt.usf.edu.
In order to keep everyone informed, today, we will be posting various pieces of critical budget information on the Regional Chancellor Webpage at http://www.stpt.usf.edu/chancellor/budget.htm. Your ideas along with the Budget Council’s response will also be posted on the same website.
I value input of each and every member of the USF St. Petersburg community and will continue to review and share your ideas broadly.
