The 2011 Part-Time Job Fair is an excellent opportunity for students seeking part-time employment on and off campus. Employers participating in this event generally offer flexible hours and will work around student class schedules.

Note: Unlike the Fall Career Fair, dress for this event is casual.

There are various ways a student can prepare for a part-time job. They are as follows:

• Update your resume and bring various copies to distribute
• Prepare and rehearse a 1-minute script about yourself
• Anticipate and practice answering possible questions
• Research the employers that will be present
• Bring something to write with - you may want to jot the names down of the employers you meet

During the event, there are several ways a student can make a positive first impression:

• Dress appropriately for the event (even if you are not required to wear professional attire, use discretion when deciding what to wear)
• Behave professionally at all times during the event
• Be organized – carry a folder or portfolio with your resume
• Arrive as early as possible while employers are fresh and have supplies of their materials

At the Organization's Table:

• Maintain professional space when approaching and introducing yourself
• Make good eye contact, give a strong handshake, and use body language that conveys interest and confidence
• Speak naturally – avoid sounding rehearsed
• Collect organizational literature and a business card
• Ask what the preferred way is to follow up
• Do not take “freebies” until you are leaving the table
