William Hogarth, Ph.D., interim regional chancellor of USFSP.

Dear USF St. Petersburg Faculty, Staff and Students:

It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. William Hogarth will serve USF St. Petersburg as interim regional chancellor of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and Frank A. Biafora, dean of the USFSP College of Arts and Sciences, will lead the search committee for a new regional chancellor.

As many of you know, Dr. Hogarth is currently director of the Florida Institute of Oceanography and is a former dean of USF’s College of Marine Science. He will assume duties at USFSP on Aug. 6 while continuing his leadership of FIO.

Dr. Hogarth is a fantastic choice to lead USFSP while we conduct a thorough search for the right person as our new regional chancellor. Dr. Hogarth is a respected administrator who has cultivated deep relationships within the community and who will keep USFSP moving forward on its path to excellence. He knows the institution and the community, he understands the USF System and he is committed to the success of our students. Dr. Hogarth is particularly skilled at managing multiple organizations at the same time, most recently during the Gulf oil spill where he assumed leadership of FIO while leading the College of Marine Science at a critical juncture for both organizations.

Likewise, I am confident that Dean Biafora will do an excellent job leading a committee comprised of key stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff and community and business leaders who will consider candidates from the national search. The committee will work with R. William Funk & Associates in developing a slate of potential candidates.

We are all looking forward to working with you closely and keeping the campus focused on its many exciting new projects. Thank you for your continued service and support.

Sincerely,

Judy Genshaft

President, USF System
