- How do I apply for a STREAMS scholarship?

- Scholarship Renewal Criteria
- Students eligible for scholarship renewal must complete 24 semester hours and maintain a 2.75 GPA or above. Students ineligible for renewal will be notified in writing. Students may petition for reinstatement due to extenuating circumstances including illness, financial, or personal difficulties within 30 days from receipt of ineligibility letter. Reinstated students will be placed on probation for one year. In the case that a STREAMS scholar/fellow loses a scholarship/fellowship, he/she may reapply at the time when qualifications are met and their application will be considered in the third priority.
- Who is eligible for a STREAMS scholarship?
- Scholarship eligibility criteria are outlined in the Requirements section of this web site.
Students with financial need who are enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate Environmental Science, Policy and Geography degree program at USF St. Petersburg are eligible to participate. Scholarship support can continue after students complete their undergraduate degree if they enroll in the Environmental Science, Policy and Geography or Marine Science graduate degrees.
- Do I need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
- Yes, you must have a demonstrated financial need to be eligible for a STREAMS scholarship. Please refer to the USFSP office of Financial Aid for more information.
- How much funding can I receive through the STREAMS scholarship program?
- Funding ranges between $3,500 and $10,000 per academic year for up to four years and is awarded according to your year in school, and other financial aid funds you may be receiving.
- What can a STREAMS scholarship be used for?
- The funds can be used for tuition, books, room and board and other educational expenses.
- Can the scholarship be renewed?
- Yes. Eligibility of all scholars will be reviewed each semester. Students maintaining a 3.0 GPA can be renewed each semester for up to four academic years based upon continued funding by the National Science Foundation.
- Can I receive other scholarships and financial aid if I receive a STREAMS scholarship?
- Yes. You are eligible to apply for financial aid and other USF St. Petersburg scholarships. Remember to apply for the FAFSA between January 1 and March 1 of every year to be considered for the maximum types and amounts of aid available.
- I am in high school. Is it too early to apply?
- No. As long as you plan to apply to USF St. Petersburg and study environmental science, you can apply for the STREAMS scholarship while you are
still in high school.
- Once I receive the scholarship, what do I have to do as a STREAMS Scholar?

- Meet all requirements of the scholarship renewal criteria;
- Meet with your designated STREAMS faculty mentor on a monthly basis;
- Regularly attend meeting of STREAMS scholars. These meetings will include seminars on technical topics as well as informal meetings to help you learn about the university resources and how to be successful in your program of study;
- Participate in professional development activities;
- Participate in the program assessment activities, which may include filling out a survey and completing an interview with a member of the program management team.
